Immersion Experience US Border Feb 2026
What’s really going on at the border of the United States and Mexico? What’s currently happening with our immigration policies? How are migrants affected by our policies? There exists so much misinformation about migrants and immigrants and refugees. What’s the difference between these groups of people? How can we learn more about the truth surrounding all this?
NEMN Synod Hunger and Rural Life Committee is sponsoring an opportunity to explore these timely questions — and you are invited to be part of this experience!
What: Immersion experience on our southern border
When: February 7-13, 2026
Where: El Paso, Texas and Juarez, MX
Who: Persons interested in learning firsthand about current realities on our southern border through the lens of the Gospel
Why: To bring awareness of these realities by hearing stories, meeting people living the reality, and moving us to advocacy for justice for all God’s children
Cost: $600 plus airfare out of Duluth or Minneapolis
Pastor Rose Mary Guzman-Sanchez and others from Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey in El Paso will lead us through various activities and events. Participants will stay at the church, eat meals together, and reflect together daily on what we see, hear and feel. Transportation and translation will be provided.
Potential activities include meeting with religious leaders, volunteers, migrants, attending court hearings, worshipping, visiting shelters, and cultural experiences, including attending the quinceanera of Pastor Rose Mary’s daughter!
The visit is facilitated by Abriendo Fronteras – Opening Borders, led by Vicki Schmidt. For more information and application forms contact Vicki at veschmidt45@msn.com.
Deadline for applying is December 5th.
Please share announcement widely.
