- Pastor to the synod; its Rostered Leaders (Pastors and Deacons) and congregations
- Primary responsibility for the ministry of Word and Sacrament in this synod and its congregations
- Preaching, teaching and administration of the Sacraments
- Promotes the health of this church’s life and witness, including faith formation, discipleship, leadership development, and racial justice
- Attests Letters of Call and presides over ordinations
- Appoints Synod Authorized Ministers and ensures training
- President of the synod corporation, chief executive, and administrative officer of the synod
- Presides at all meetings of the Synod Assembly
- Exercises supervision over the work of synod office staff
