Synod Assemblies

The Northeastern Minnesota Synod Assembly is usually held in the spring (late April/early May). The Synod Assembly is the highest legislative authority of the synod. Voting members from synod congregations gather annually to worship together, to engage in discussion, to hold elections for the Synod Council and various synod committees, and to conduct business.

Assembly Theme

The theme of the 2026 Synod Assembly is “A New Creation is Everything!” from Galatians 6:15b. “A New Creation is Everything!

As for those who will follow this rule – peace be upon them, and mercy” (Galatians 6:15b-16a) is the assembly verse.

2026 Synod Assembly

The 2026 Northeastern Minnesota Synod Assembly is Friday evening through Sunday noon, April 24-26. It will be held at Breezy Point Resort, Breezy Point, Minnesota. In addition to the regular business of the assembly (receiving reports, act upon resolutions, approve 2027 Compensation Guidelines and Synod Budget, etc.), this assembly will elect the fifth Synod Bishop of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod. ELCA.

ELCA Churchwide Representatives

The ELCA Secretary, the Rev. CeCee Mills, and the ELCA Executive for Synod Relations, Deacon MaryAnn Schwabe, will be our ELCA Churchwide representatives. They will give a report of the ELCA and oversee the election process as our assembly elects and calls a synod bishop.

A note about gender

The Synod Constitution (S7.21.c) asks that lay voters from congregations be as equal as possible in the number of male and female members they bring. The Northeastern Minnesota Synod recognizes and welcomes people with a diverse set of gender identities.
